7. What Happened to the TT Zero?

Isle of Man TT Xero

The Isle of Man TT Zero, held during the iconic Isle of Man TT, has been a significant part of the electric racing scene since its inception in 2010. Over the years, it has showcased remarkable technological advancements, with teams like Mugen and their Shinden bikes achieving multiple victories.

However, participation began to decline due to high development costs and the challenges of racing on the treacherous Isle of Man roads. In 2019, the Department for Enterprise announced a two-year pause on the TT Zero class, citing slow development of clean emissions sports bikes and low participant numbers.*1

The 2020 and 2021 COVID-19 pandemic further extended the hiatus for the TT Zero. As of February 2025, there has been no official announcement regarding the return of the iconic race for the 2025 TT.

While the future of the Isle of Man TT Zero remains uncertain, it continues to be a key player in the history of electric motorcycle racing. The rise of series like MotoE™ and MXGP Electric indicates a growing interest, and the Isle of Man may once again serve as a proving ground for the world's fastest electric motorcycles in the future.

And with media coverage expanding through TV networks, streaming platforms, and social media, electric racing is becoming more accessible to fans around the world.

With new tech, better performances, and a global community of riders and fans, the future of e-moto racing is brighter than ever.
